Poker 1 on 1
The Late Stu Ungar
Are you a poker fan who is in search of an idol? Well, search no more. Out of the hundred of great poker players out there, there is one that truly stands out, and his name is Stu Ungar.
Why should Stu Ungar be your poker idol? What has he accomplished to receive admiration from poker fans?
Well for one, he has only won five of the most-coveted World Series of Poker bracelets. Stu Ungar also has three world championships under his belt. Aside from that, he has also reigned supreme in ten important championships of No Limit Texas Hold'em.
His winnings amount to a lot, and proof of this is that he has won double the earnings of the ones that followed him in poker greatness. What's more amazing about Stu Ungar is that he had only played in thirty poker championships. Others had also won poker championships, that is for sure, but unlike them, Stu Ungar did not play a great number of championship tournaments. That is what separates him from the rest.
If that is not enough then listen to this: Stu Ungar s the only player with the honor of winning both in the highly-acclaimed Amarillo Slim's Super Bowl of Poker and The World Series of Poker. As if it's not good enough, he done it thrice in each tournament.
Although an undoubtedly great poker player, he confessed that he is even more a greater gin rummy player. Once, he had said that someday a poker player will come and be better than he is, but nobody could be better in gin rummy than him. He was originally a gin rummy player, but had to shift to poker due to demand.
What had made him so successful?
Many poker fans believe that Stu Ungar had an IQ normally found in geniuses. He was also known for his remarkable photographic memory. These, together with his guts, made him one of the greatest poker players the world has ever seen. He is sometimes tagged as the Michael Jordan of the poker arena.
However, we all have our imperfections, including Stu Ungar. When he was alive, he was abusive of poker dealers, much like Dennis Rodman of the NBA. He was also addicted to drugs, and died with little money left.
Many would remember that Stu Ungar was a high-stakes gambler, he goes from rags to riches to rags again in such sort time. This, and his drug addiction are the reasons why people do not want to consider him one of the best poker players in the world.
